I am Rahmatika Dewi, an Indonesian. Now I am doing my doctoral course in Educational Sciences Program, Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Hiroshima University. The title of my research is “Developing Youth Entrepreneurs in the Phenomenon of Mushrooming Digital Start-up Companies (An Entrepreneurial University Concept: Case in Indonesia)”. This study is going to investigate the phenomenon of mushrooming digital start-up companies which happens in Indonesia nowadays and what youths’ skills required by these companies. Furthermore, it also wants to explore how Higher Education Institutions (hereinafter, HEIs) made reforms to be entrepreneurial universities for dealing with challenges in the phenomenon of mushrooming digital start-up companies in Indonesia as well as how they play roles in providing entrepreneurship education and developing entrepreneurial mindsets for facing the phenomenon of mushrooming digital start-up companies in Indonesia. Finally, it will studies how HEIs collaborate with digital start-up companies as well as other entrepreneurship support networks to maximize their roles as entrepreneurial universities. This study is going to investigate and identify the phenomena by conducting semi-structured interview directly with individuals who directly experienced the phenomenon including the founders of some digital start-up companies, directors/rectors of HEIs or their representatives (4 HEIs in Indonesia), heads of study programs in diploma or bachelor degree (this study will include informatics engineering, business management, visual communication design, accounting, and communication science study program). Those study programs will be chosen since those are indicated closely related to the jobs in digital start-up companies. Some graduates of HEIs and some current students will also be interviewed. Furthermore, the observation to some digital start-up companies also will be conducted in order to know the working atmosphere. The last, the documents related to the curriculum designed on those study programs also will be checked to know whether there has been a curriculum reform tailors the phenomenon of mushrooming digital start-up companies or not. The results of this study can give the recommendations for HEIs in Indonesia. It can offer some insights into the progress of change in a university as well as useful in the formulation of strategic plans. It is critical for the selected universities to the country’s transition to a knowledge-based economy. However, since the COVID 19 case in Indonesia is increasing day by day the data has not been gathered yet. If it is impossible to do fieldwork by next year, I may change the semi-structured interview method into Focus Group Discussion (FGD) by using online video conferencing software platforms like Zoom or Google Meet.
