Bambang Arif Rahman
2016年11月08日
I am Bambang Arif Rahman from Indonesia. Starting as a private doctoral student in IDEC Hiroshima University from October 2016. Previously I am a teacher in a pesantren (kind of the oldest Islamic boarding school) in Indonesia which has around 2,300 male and female students. Initially, I came to Japan to accompany my wife, who is a Doctoral student in Social Science Department in the Hiroshima University. And then, my Indonesian friends and colleagues acknowledged me to IDEC Hiroshima University. Eventually, I become a doctoral student of this wonderful Department.
I plan to write my research topic about the practice of multicultural education in Indonesian pesantren, comparing between modern pesantren in a plural city of Solo Central Java and another one in Special Province of Aceh in the western of Indonesia which has been implemented shari’a (Islamic) law.
Researching about pesantren and Indonesian Islamic education in Hiroshima University, for me, is must be very interesting as Japan is not a Muslim country. It is because I will have a unique perspective that is different from others. Seven years ago, I researched about pesantren in the University of Leeds, England, the United Kingdom as my Master degree Thesis. Therefore, in my opinion, I will have two interesting different point of views, European and Asian perspectives, in looking at pesantren.
To conduct my work in IDEC Hiroshima University, I will be supervised by Kusakabe Sensei, who is renowned Sensei (Lecturer) in the institution. I am happy to be supervised by him as he supports, advices, and guides my study patiently and thoroughly.
