Konnichiwa. My name is Elenita Natalio Que. I am a new doctoral student having been admitted to the program this April 2018, and I am under the Phoenix Program.

I am a faculty of educational technology, a researcher and teacher trainer of the University of the Philippines-College of Education. I am also my College’s educational technology area coordinator, where I spearhead the implementation of the program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and serve as adviser to research students. I am involved in various researches related to use of technology in education, curriculum studies, special education, online professional teacher development and comparative education. I provide training on technology integration to teachers in both public and private institutions.

I am an advocate of the use of digital technologies in teaching yet firmly believe that concepts can also be taught as effectively using the conventional media, to include the indigenous resources.

Why Ph.D.? Being in my prime age, I am to most of you like a mom or an aunt. I am even asked many times, why, given my experiences as teacher, researcher and trainer for 12 years, and my active involvement in international activities, do I still want to get a Ph.D., and toil through the rigors of completing the degree. My answer is this: Because I want to be a part of the cause of preparing Filipino pre-service and in-service teachers for the schools of the future. I believe it can be done through the institution of innovative, yet culturally and socially-relevant programs, that would have an impact on the education of Filipino schoolchildren within the context of a continuously changing learning environment. And this I can only fully realize if I have a doctoral degree.

Doctoral Research. My research is tentatively titled “Evolving ICT Integration Framework for Science Teaching in Philippine Remote and Rural Villages”. This study aims to examine the transformation of ICT integration practices of science teachers teaching in remote villages in the Philippines for the period 2007-2016. Based on the results of the analysis, a pedagogical framework deemed to help sustain the changes they make to their teaching strategies to appropriate technology in their instruction to

support meaningful student learning will be evolved. It is an attempt to emerge with a new concept of ICT integration, that is aligned to the country’s cultural, geographical and

political setting. The resulting transformative pedagogical framework will serve as reference for the design of teacher training programs on ICT integration particularly on remote areas in the Philippines. It is also expected that the results of the study would provide significant inputs to the formulation of policies related to the improvement of access to ICT resources and upgrading of technological knowledge and skills on integrating technology not only in teaching science concepts but also in other content areas.

Life’s Philosophy. My philosophy in life is guided by my love of the mountains. Climbing the mountains gives me a certain high that inspires me to achieve higher heights in both my personal and professional life. With the summit in mind, the pebbles that I encountered along the way are only small distractions, and the bigger stones are there to be stepped on while I hold on to the roots and the vines to gi図2ve me that steady climb.
